Growing household incomes and changing consumer preferences are supporting long-term demand for affordable, higher-quality home appliances across Southeast Asia.

ACV Capital-backed Simplus has surpassed 18 million users within five years of its founding, underscoring the company’s continued expansion across Southeast Asia.

The milestone comes as rising household incomes, urbanization, and changing consumer preferences continue to support long-term demand for affordable, higher-quality home appliances across Southeast Asia. The region’s household appliances market reached US$21.3 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow at a 6.7% CAGR through 2030, while the small home appliances segment is expected to expand from US$2.5 billion today to US$4.4 billion by 2034.

Despite this momentum, household appliance penetration remains relatively low. The average household in China owns an estimated 10 to 12 small home appliances, compared with around two across Southeast Asia, highlighting the significant runway for future growth as household incomes continue to rise.

“Reaching 18 million users within five years, despite intense competition, demonstrates the importance of building products that remain relevant to consumers. Today’s young generation is looking for more than functionality. They increasingly value products that combine thoughtful design with everyday convenience,” said Jack Zhang, Co-Founder & CEO of Simplus.

As household incomes rise, consumers are increasingly prioritising products that combine functionality, design, and affordability rather than competing on price alone.

The affordable premium opportunity

The shift has fuelled the emergence of an “affordable premium” segment, where brands increasingly compete through product innovation, design, and customer experience rather than price alone.

Founded in Thailand in 2021, Simplus operates an asset-light business model, managing product research and development and industrial design in-house while partnering with established original design manufacturers (ODMs) for production. The approach enables the company to expand its product portfolio efficiently while maintaining product quality and capital discipline.

Beyond product development, the company has built an omnichannel distribution network spanning TikTok Shop, Shopee, Lazada, its own direct-to-consumer websites across six Southeast Asian markets, and offline retail partnerships with HomePro, Big C, Nitori, Automatic Centre, and Western Appliances.

Rather than relying solely on third-party marketplaces, Simplus has invested in building a regional consumer brand across multiple customer touchpoints. The strategy has supported higher average order values, stronger gross margins, and industry-leading customer repurchase rates, reinforcing its mass-premium positioning.

Beyond Southeast Asia, the company is also expanding into Latin America, where the home appliance market was estimated at approximately US$64 billion in 2025. Continued urbanization, rising disposable incomes, and growing demand for higher-quality household products are expected to support further market growth, creating another attractive long-term opportunity.

Simplus’ growth reflects broader structural changes in Southeast Asia’s consumer economy. As household appliance penetration increases and consumers continue to trade up to better-designed, higher-quality products, brands with differentiated products, disciplined execution, and omnichannel distribution are well positioned to capture long-term growth.
